Bleak House, Basic Overview

Create a chart with the following information:

  1. Give a brief summary (50 words) of each chapter in today's reading assignment.
  2. What are the additional main figures, or, who are the new characters in the text?
  3. Create a diagram that maps the different plot lines for these chapters.

Contingency, Irony, Solidarity, Chapter 3

Create a chart with the following information:
  1. Make a list of ten key points from this chapter.
  2. Make a list of twenty or so terms that you are unfamiliar with from this chapter. (Every time you see a word you don't know, write it down.)
  3. Write a rough draft summary of the chapter.

Research Prompt, No. 4

Bleak House, Language and Dialog

Create a chart to answer the following question: How do language and dialog work in chapters 25-32?
  1. What is the difference between language and dialog in Bleak House?
  2. Track instances to show how the vocabulary is the same or different between the dialog and the prose.
  3. Is the spoken language (dialog) authentic? (Would these individuals speak this way in actuality?) Why or why not? Cite five specific examples.
  4. What professional background, economic understanding, or belief system might the language in the text be pulled from? Cite five examples for any of these sources (five for economic, five for religious, etc.)
