Ester starts off talking about ow much she writes about herself. She then begins to talk about Richard and Ada's budding love. She says she never witnessed people falling in love. They are trying to keep it a secret but she said she wont tell. Ester confronts Richard about money that he owes. Even though said he made 10 pounds, he made no profit because he used the same amount earlier. Mr Jarndyce received a letter from a friend saying he is coming to visit. Mr. Boythorn was late because of bad directions. He is loud just how Mr. Jarndyce described him. Despite his loudness everyone loves him and Ester thinks he is loving. He talks about his neighbor who he refers to as Sir Luicifer. The next day Mr Guppy comes by to speak to Mr. Boythorn. After the meeting Mr. Guppy confesses his love for Ester but she turns him down. He then leaves her alone.
Chapter 10:
Mr. Snagsby is introduced. He works as a partner with in a law firm. His partner however has not been seen. He married the niece of his partner. He and his wife take care of Guster who is considered a charity case. His wife helps out alot in the firm. Snagsby goes to see Tulkinghorn. Tulkinghorn question Snagsby about who wrote some of Jarndyce's documents. Tulkinghorn is taken to Nemos residence. He says he is going to go later but turns around to go right away. He goes into Krook's shop to find Nemo sleeping in a smelly messy room. Tulkinghorn speaks loudly but the man does not move.
Chapter 11:
They find out that Nemo is dead. When the doctor arrives he says that he overdose on Opium which he bought from the doctor. Snagsby returns and he calls the police and this makes the neighbors aware that something is up. His wife knew something was wrong with Nemo when she met him.Ester couldnt sleep that night because of her many seizures. When they go to court they dont find any information on Nemo's death except that he was a good guy.
Chapter 12:
Its rainy and Lady Dedlock and Sir leicester returned to England from Paris. Lady Dedlock says that she was bored to death and she didn't do anything new out there. She couldn't have gotten back any faster. She went to concerts, operas, and to the theatre and it was all repetitive sort to speak. Sir Leicester reads through his mail and Lady Dedlock notices a letter from Mr. Tulkinghorn. It is a letter to Lady Dedlock saying he must inform her of something when she gets back. After hearing the message she decides to stop the carriage and get out for a walk. They invite Tulkinghorn to Chesney Wold. When he arrives he tells Lady Dedlock about the man that she inquired about, Nemo. He tells her that he is dead. Mr Tulkinghorn also discuss with Sir Leicester the lawsuit against Mr. Boythorn. He refuses to come to a compromise.

Summaries: X – XIII
Chapter 10: A law stationer named Mr. Snagsby, is a
“bold and timid” man who lives with his wife, Mrs. Snagsby. One of the workers
in the office is named Guster, who is prone to seizures and hates working in
the office. Mr. Snagsby then meets with Mr. Tulkinghorn, a lawyer who is an
“oyster of the old school.” The two gather together to discuss the Jarndyce
case, which leads Mr. Tulkinghorn searching for the writer, Nemo. Upon entering
the second floor of the house, he finds Nemo unconscious in a highly unsanitary
room.
Chapter 11: Mr. Tulkinghorn and Krook eventually
realize that Nemo is dead, and the surgeon that was called claimed that he died
from an overdose of opium (enough to kill twelve people). Later on in the
chapter, potential witnesses were being interviewed, and a boy named Jo was one
of them. Jo was a poor child who has no parents and no education, but states
that Nemo “wos wery good” to him. Jo was, at the end of the chapter, said to
have been a rejected witness.
Chapter 12: On the way back from Paris, Lady
Deadlock seems as if she’s extremely bored, while Sir Leicester contemplates
his greatness. Later on, Lady Deadlock meets a nineteen year-old girl named
Rosa, who is a “young scholar” of Mrs. Rouncewell. At the end of the chapter,
Mr. Tulkinghorn meets with Lady Deadlock and Sir Leicester, which lead to a
rather nerve-wracking conversation. Along with talking about the suit regarding
Mr. Boythorn, he reveals to the two that Nemo had died. Sir Leicester seems
reluctant to hear the story, but Lady Deadlock insists on finding out what
happened to Nemo.
Chapter 13: Richard was always indecisive about
profession he wanted to enter into, but he later decided that he wanted to be a
surgeon. Upon deciding, he is mentored by Mr. Bayham Badger, a known doctor who
held a successful practice. At dinner, the news that Mr. Badger was the third
husband of Mrs. Badger is brought up. The first two husbands were very
prominent, and that Mrs. Badger married them all on the same day because she
felt an attachment to the day. Finally, Ada runs to Esther with big news. She
says that Richard proclaimed that, “he loved her dearly.”
